Head Shots

Last weekend I played around with my Westcott Apollo JS 50″ Softbox and Elinchrom Quatra at my living room studio. It is a great combination withe the really large softbox designed for speedlights but with the power of the Quadras.

First approach was as a single light from camera right to feather over the face. It pointed in from 90deg and was very close close to the face.

Second I placed the softbox right behind camera to give it more a beauty lighting look. The large 50″ softbox creates a real nice and soft light ad you can see me standing in front if it in the catch lights in her eyes.

I rally like the 50″ Westcott with the indirect lighting. The flash had is inside the box and pointing into the boox that the light will be reflected ones first before it goes through the front diffuser. It is a great combination for ‘on location’ shots. The only problem could be the huge size in strong wind conditions. So you need a strong assistant to get old of it ;-)

All photos were shot with my Nikon D3 and my 105mm/f2.0 DC lens to limit the DOF.
